Mixing things up: Adele swapped her usual black outfits for a red vintage-style ensemble at the Grammy awards, but divided opinion with the curtain-like outfit

When it comes to her red carpet outfit choices, Adele rarely steers away from black, but as she made a highly-anticipated appearance at the Grammy awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night, the Rolling In The Deep singer decided to mix things up.
Instead of sticking to an LBD, Adele wore a vintage-style red floral dress as she posed up for photographers at the Staples Center.
Adele also chose the occasion to debut her new tatoo tribute to her son Angelo - a large 'A' behind her right ear.

The 24-year-old singer teamed the mid-length dress with a matching pair of heels as she smiled widely for the waiting press. Adele finished off her outfit with perfectly flawless make-up and a chic updo for the red carpet occasion.
But while the singer's outfit drew attention to her post-baby body and small waist, the ensemble didn't go down too well on Twitter, with fans comparing it to items from tablecloths to curtains.

Good spirits: Adele waved and smiled widely as she made her way into the Staples Center for the ceremony

One wrote on the micro-blogging site: 'Is Adele wearing her Mums curtains as a dress? #VoiceOfAnAngel #DressBelongsOnATable #grammys.'
While another added: 'Apparently Adele's dress was inspired by a couch from the 1970's...#eredcarpet.'
And one fan wrote: 'Oh good god Adele. Just no. How many carpets sacrificed their lives for that monstrosity you call a dress?'
However, others disagreed, with one writing: 'Why is everyone hating on adele's dress I think its so pretty!! Maybe I have no fashion sense.'

Contrast: While the dress divided opinion, it makes a nice contrast from the black gowns Adele usually wears to red carpet events

Another agreed: 'Now I see the dress up close I think its cute.'
While her outfit might have been something of a fail, Adele proved successful when it came to the actual awards - taking home the prize for Best Solo Pop Performance for Set Fire To The Rain.
Adele was also one of the only stars to stick to the pre-Grammy award memo which was sent out by organisers in a bid to reduce the amount of flesh on show on the red carpet.
